Editorial Reviews:

Cory Friedman woke up one morning when he was five years old with the uncontrollable urge to twitch his neck. From that day forward his life became a hell of irrepressible tics and involuntary utterances, and Cory embarked on an excruciating journey from specialist to specialist to discover the cause of his disease. Soon it became unclear what tics were symptoms of his disease and what were side effects of the countless combinations of drugs. The only certainty is that it kept getting worse. Simply put: Cory Friedman's life was a living hell.

AGAINST MEDICAL ADVICE is the true story of Cory and his family's decades-long battle for survival in the face of extraordinary difficulties and a maddening medical establishment. It is a heart-rending story of struggle and triumph with a climax as dramatic as any James Patterson thriller. (2008)

5 out of 5 stars Gripping tale

The description of this book made me doubt it would be as good as it is. Based on he fact that James Patterson co-authored the book, IU bought it. I am glad that I id. The story is a gripping tale. I never wanted to put the book down. An alternate way of looking at life wqs introduced to me.

5 out of 5 stars Enthralling, heartwrenching and well done...

This true story is presented in a tasteful, straight-forward manner, and had all the ingredients that make a page-turner. While painful to read at times, the overall determination of this young man was remarkable, and left the reader with a sense of how strong the human will is, and how powerful the love of family can be. While it angered and upset me that this young man should be stricken with such a torturous condition, and ostricized on top of it, there was a life-affirming quality to his perception and his tale was one worth reading. One could hardly hold on to self-pity after reading the trials and tribulations of this amazing individual battling this horrendous affliction.

2 out of 5 stars Just Okay

I am still having a hard time reading this book. It is well written, it just isn't holding my interest. I am aware of this terrible medical problem that haunts many people and I am sympathetic. This book just doesn't hold my interest.

5 out of 5 stars Against Medical Advice by James Patterson

This is a very compelling true story. I found that I could not put it down. Very well written.
