Great for learning or reference
This is the first Pocket Consultant book I've purchased. It walked me through all the essentials needed to learn Exchange 2007 (I used the 32-bit evaluation) and it pretty much covers everything.
The author provides examples of using the GUI or CMDlets to configure Exchange. He also provides valuable real-world tips. This one will be used often when it's time for deployment!
Highly Recommended
Having purchased other Pocket Consultants by Stanek - it was a no brainer to get the Exchange manual. Complete, well indexed and with always the how's and why's the Pocket Consultant series is great.
This is the quintessential book for understanding Exchange. It explains pretty much everything you would want to know about the world's most advanced messaging platform for day-to-day administration.
The author writes everything in very friendly easy to understand language, so that you'll never be lost in computer jargon. At the same time, the author has a very organized and clear style. His details are never off topic and are very refreshing. His sense of what's important and what's not makes it possible for you to actually read the whole book and get all of the useful information out of it. His approach is like the cool History teacher who teaches everything you need to know, while you're having too much fun to realize how much you're learning.
I had a lot to learn, and I wanted to learn it fast. This book was as perfect a guide as I could have imagined. Now I know all the shortcuts, all the secret gems, all the advance techniques, everything I wanted to know and more.
Thank you William Stanek for helping me get the most out of Exchange!
Good read but could use some work
I found some mistakes as far as how many stores are available for each type of server i.e. standard vs. enterprise but so far all the printed material I have read contradicts the Microsoft website other then that is was a good point to start from I do wish there was more Command line stuff in it. but overall very good book
The Standard
William Stanek has been my favorite tech author for many years now. Ever since starting with Windows NT Pocket Consultant in 1999, I've been hooked.
He packs more into his books than any one. It's always clear and to the point, and it's one of the reasons his books are my favorites.
With almost 17 years of Win experience under my belt, I got this book to sharpen up on the newest version of Exchange. The stuff in here is amazing. I've learned a lot of new tricks from this book. Nothing escapes his eye, every section clears up something or gives expert insights in ways i wouldn't have thought of myself.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone upgrading from previous versions and any current administrators. For day to day work it can't be beat. Great work, William !
