Exactly what I was looking for!
Informative, clearly and concisely written, great lessons--an awesome experience that made me enjoy Illustrator even more. ^_^
Revealed has everything you need
I was very impressed with this book. It does everything it promises and it promises to make you very good at Adobe Illustrator CS3.
I haven't completely finished it yet, but I have already begun using it to make ads for my business and people are blown away at how professional they look.
All small business owners who do print ads should take a class, buy Illustrator and fire their ad guy. This will save you tons of money and really show you how to create ads and graphic designs that will wow.
Expensive but worth it, especially for a beginner
I just purchased Illustrator CS3, my first experience with the program. I've used Photoshop for a few years and decided I wanted to expanded my skills by learning more about vector illustration. Aside from some similar tools, Illustrator operates very differently than Photoshop.
This book gives me what I need in small doses with skill expanding "group projects" at the end of the chapters. I am finding my way around the program much better after using this book. I also purchased the WOW! book and give it a 5 star rating, too.
This may be too basic for experienced users, but it was perfect for me.
A decent teaching tool but could really be better...
This book was required for my online Illustrator class. I'm a non-traditional student with a graduate degree and I'm taking this training seriously. I find that the lessons are not always easy to follow, and a few of the examples are either wrong or could have been edited better to avoid some serious confusion. Regardless, this type of book is probably very difficult to write...but considering it's directly from Adobe, I'm a little disappointed. On the brighter side, I'm learning a great deal about the software, and I'm hopefully learning everything I need to know (I just have to try and figure a few things out on my own when the book doesn't explain it).
Illustrator CS3 Revealed
Personally, I really like the "Adobe---------Revealed" (fill in InDesign, Photoshop, or Illustrator) series, and this one was helpful as I expected. I use InDesign a great deal, Photoshop quite a bit, but am weak on Illustrator. Nevertheless, this book got me out of the several problems I had -- so that I could create what I wanted and actually retain what I had learned.
