Product Description

This authoritative volume is the complete story of German artillery during World War II. Illustrated with over 400 photographs and illustrations, this is a superb visual guide to the equipment of Hitler's armed forces.

The book is divided into sections: infantry, mountain, and field artillery; heavy field artillery and heavy artillery; railway artillery, including the legendary 'Dora'; antitank and antiaircraft guns; coastal artillery; and recoilless artillery. Each section is fully illustrated and technical details and data are presented on each individual type and model. The author provides such key information as service history, caliber, length, rifling, elevation, weight, range, and ammunition used. Ian Hogg includes the full range of artillery from the V3 and 'Dora' to those workhorses of the German military, the 8.8cm and 7.5cm Feldkanone.

4 out of 5 stars German Artilley of WW2

304 pages, hardcover. Very good book for data on each of the German Artilley weapons used in WWII. It covers the organization of artillery units, breaks down by types (infantry, mountain, light, heavy, railway, Anti Tank, Anti Aircraft, etc).

The book has appendix showing types of ammo used, markings, nomenclatures. This is a serious reference book and packed full of technical data useful to historians in search of excellent detail of the weapons and ammunition used by the Germans.

Since many of the weapons were used by the Army, Airforce and Navy, it is also of interest to many different readers. My only wish is that the photos were better or there were more line drawings of the artillery pieces described. That being said, this is a great addition to a serious collectors addition.

5 out of 5 stars worth every dollar as well as the best of the best for now

i agree with all other reviewers here untill the day comes when someone else can come up with a better book i decidedly for see this book being around for a long long time.

buy them while they are still for sale they are very much well worth the money yes this book is missing some things but not by a whole lot i have enjoyed this book very much after getting it into my hands late summer of last year back in 2008.

5 out of 5 stars great reference book

I was greatly impressed by this book. I now use it as a reference for any reading I do on World War II.

I was saddened not to find "Anzio Annie" (aka Leopold and Robert) referenced as such, but comparing google articles I found it to be the "28cm Kanone 5 in Eisenbahnlafette".

I was disappointed to find, as did another reviewer, that mortars and self propelled artillery were not included. Luckily, I had the "German Military Vehicles" catalog to refer to for "Karl" and "Thor".

I would have liked a more comprehensive index by popular names of various artillery. More history of the various railroad guns would have been an added attraction.

Overall, I do like the book. With other reference books and google, it adds to my library.

5 out of 5 stars Great Book

This is the Best Book on German Artillery of World War II that I have read so far. It covers all artillery from small guns to the biggest Railway and coastal Guns. The technical Data is great and the pictures are very good. It also covers those that were designed but never used in World War II. This is the book for the person that wants to know all about German Artillery in World War II.

5 out of 5 stars tecnically perfect

I'm an italian student and I find this book the best one under the tecnical aspect. There are a lot of details, photoes and dates. This is certanly the best catologue of the german artillery of WWII that an amatour can read. N.B.: for the non-english people. Language is quite difficult in this book, it isn't very simple to read.
