The funniest joke I've read in years and it's 1300 plus pages lol!!!!
THIS TIME...................THE JOKE IS ON THEM!!!!
We're off our knees now and the lion sleeps no more! Several psychiatrists who appear to be fundies at first glance decide to upgrade numerous urban legends created by a few psychiatrists of the past , such as the nonexistent 'major depressive disorder'syndrome which is one of a series of tons of invented mental disorders (you felt bad about something in the 20th century and there was a definition of your condition; 'major depressive disorder' , etc). Some have turned out to be quite real such as split personality disorder. I wonder if some of this book's authors actually suffer from a mixture of split personality disorder and major depressive disorder. Laughing my arse off for hours after having heard the word mentioned , 'major depressive disorder'I asked myself if these people really take their jobs seriously why aren't they after those they're supposed to treat , such as Bush or Cheney or something? Why do they always target activists , mystics and so on? Because they're after money that's all. That's all they want. But wait a minute. If you decide to read this book for the single goal of just having a good laugh , you might get a chance to have the biggest laugh of your lifetime if you're new to this field of litterature. So I'm probably going to buy this book just to have a good laugh and have the laugh while I'll be reading it. I flip - flopped through it's 1300 pages and felt the 'major depressive disorder'syndrome to describe the authors'personalities perfectly to me and matter of factly , brilliantly. That is why we have to laugh our arses off them until they start realize that nobody likes them anymore or those who had it all and wasted it all away. Yes there are indeed some seriously dangerous insane lunatics out there and it's a shame that clinical psychiatric textbooks of this nature are still being taught in schools and that people are expected to take them litterally. This time the joke is on them. There are indeed some psychologists out there who go where the evidence takes them , like John Mack did and some of his friends. Today the anti - psychiatrists are so strong they don't need to be scientologists anymore like most of them were something like a few years ago - and even though scientologist antipsychiatrists are still strong today there are definite signs showing that the power they once had has seriously weakened.
Something like barely two years ago you had to be a scientologist to be considered a serious anti - psychiatrist , and way before that anti - psychiatrists who were not into scientology had written brilliant books which had enormous impact on future generations of mystical visionaries who chose to expand their consciousness in these fields of study beyound that which some of the fundamentalist 'psychiatrists'had termed 'psychiatry'. In fact I find it to be in violation that today there are those who actually refer to themselves as 'clinical psychiatrists'and yet don't believe in the very word of a 'psyche', or soul , immortal spirit and so on.
So here's how the entire book collapses head on. The authors were actually the right authors writing the wrong book and publishing it at the wrong time - the 21st century , not the beginning stages of the 20th century or in some time somewhere in human history where they'd be listened to , at least by a few cranks. I just told a young woman at the University of Iceland how funny I found the book to be and she probably decided not to bother looking at the front cover. Although talked about seriously at a few C.S.I.C.O.P. meetings and some fundie pop shows I wonder when the other laughs are going to start to be heard now that one has already been written. This time the joke is on those inactivists who let insane people stay in power and didn't do anything about it while they were sending troops to Iraq , Afghanistan and goodness knows where else and talking about sending troops to Iran while the world watched them waste their opportunities , all in the name of absolute , total insanity. Gosh I'm looking so forward to read more so I can have more laughs. Lol! Ooops!
disapointed
I have been waitting so long for my books to arrive... how long should I keep waiting?
A must-have classic.
The authors' claim of defining the field of psychiatry is not an overstatement. This book is a must-have complete psychiatric rereferance. Maybe a little overwhelming for newbies, I've found it very useful in learning and practice. I would prefer, though, the text not to be printed so small and in dense. Nonetheless it is a classic every psychiatrist should have. This edition is more organized and easier to read the previous one.
