Learn to defend your faith
First, "Apologetics" doesn't mean that you are constantly apologizing for being a Christian!! Seriously, every Christian is commanded to be able to explain what we believe and why to non-believers and to those who ask us how we face death, disaster, and sickness with a peace that passes all understanding. Most of us are not taught in Sunday school or church how to really do that like we should be. There are two Bibles that will teach you everything you need to know to defend your faith, win others to Christ, and to know what other religions and cults believe and why. One Bible is this one, the Apologetics Study Bible in the Holman Christian Standard Version. The other is The Evidence Bible done by the folks at Living Waters Ministry, Ray Comfort. There should be a spot on your Bible shelf for one of these Bibles...or both. The Apologetics Bible in Hardcover has the Thinker image on it, in Genuine Leather it looks a little cheap, if you like your Bible to look nice, get the higher priced leather version (not the genuine); if you want sturdier paper for marking and study get the hardback and stick it in a cover to cover up the tacky looking cover. Its a great Bible.
nikkigrant
I purchased the leatherbound version. I found the various commentaries throughout this Bible very interesting. My only complaint is, for me at least, it is hard to read. The art work at the start of each book shows through the pages. I find it distracting and hard for me to focus on the print. Otherwise, I love this Bible.
Fantastic Work..
Loved this work - bought it last Saturday and am still going through many of the articles..
Would like more if...
1) Available in other translations (I read NRSV myself)
2) Why didn't Dietrich Bonhoeffer make the list?! Talk about a great apologist and martyr in the midst of an evil regime..
Excellent Bible
I love this bible and highly recommend it. I have the leather bound bible and love the layout and format. In addition, it's very easy to read. The articles and notes are impressive. However, I would have to agree with some of the other reviews in that given the list of authors, contributors, scholars, etc., I expected the articles to be more in depth. Overall, a very good bible. I would also suggest the Archeological Study Bible for anyone seeking the truth.
Great study tool
I really like this book. It has lots of commentaries, lots of explanations of the biblical customs and is in general perfect for my studies. I use this in conjunction with the Biblical Illustrator, from Lifeway, to get the most out of my Bible studies. I liked this book so well, I bought another as a gift.
