Tribute to an overlooked master
I had only recently heard of Don Flowers when this collection of his single panel gag strips was released and that in and of itself constitutes a bit of a crime. After seeing his work, one wonders why he isn't revered alongside the likes of a Charles M. Schulz or an Alex Raymond (these two of course just being a "fer instance").
His work is beautiful, excellent composition and spotting of blacks, and the gags are funny. As a matter of fact, with the exception of some hairstyles and fashions, most of the gags still seem contemporary.
The only surprise for me were the dimensions. At 7.8 x 8.2, the book seems to be the size that the strips originally ran at (I assume.) Well over 250 strips are reproduced. With an introduction by artist Sergio Aragones and an informative foreword by editor Alex Chun, I'm very satisfied with this book
