Editorial Reviews:

NEWLY REVISED AND UPDATED

The Out-of-Sync Child broke new ground by identifying Sensory Processing Disorder, a common but frequently misdiagnosed problem in which the central nervous system misinterprets messages from the senses. This newly revised edition features additional information from recent research on vision and hearing deficits, motor skill problems, nutrition and picky eaters, ADHA, autism, and other related disorders.

5 out of 5 stars Out-of-sync is in-sync with what parents should know.

This book helped me have better understandings of my foster daughter. It helped me cope and understand. No...I did not find all the answers but helped me build a better bond with my little one. It also gave me a direction to look into that led to alternate therapies and what not. If you are struggling and need help this will serve as a good resource. Good luck and understand that you are not alone! I hope that this helps.

5 out of 5 stars Helpful Resource

I really appreciate the time, effort and detailed information placed in this edition. It's a valuable resource for those who have a love one diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD). It's a very applicable book; I have literally taken several of its practices. There is also a nice section in the back about additional resource organizations. For me it was a must have to expand my knowledge and help library.

5 out of 5 stars Informative and Easy to Read

An easy to understand guide to understanding Sensory Processing Disorder. You can get a lot out of this book even if you don't read the whole thing or read it in order. Although it's a book on a disorder, it's not written in unintelligable 'medico-speak'. It's clear and easy to read. This book was recommended to me and it was definitly worth the cost. Being able to spot the symptoms will help you realize that your child/student/neice/friend- or you yourself- is not nuerotic or crazy (anyone else unable to handle ticking clocks?) but has a disorder that can be dealt with. Also wonderful is the book's emphasis on help and how to get it. Don't let your instincts be brushed aside by doctors! This book is a huge help as SPD becomes a more recognized diagnoses; symptoms are listed so you can fill out a checklist and see if your child fits. Instead of having your child dismissed or labeled as 'lazy', 'hyperactive', 'low-energy', 'ADD or ADHD' (SPD is often mistakenly diagnosed, sometimes as these two disorders instead) ect, understand where the problem is coming from and get help- starting with this great book.
