2 out of 5 stars A little dull

I had to read this for library class. It was alright. It wasn't as bad as Johnny Tremain, but it was no classic either. It could have been a better novel if the author put in more characters and made a more complex plot.

5 out of 5 stars book review

I read the fantastic book called War with Grandpa by Robert Smith. This book is about when Peter's Grandpa moves in and Peter is forced to into a horrible room in Attic. The setting is mainly in Peter's house. The characters are Peter, Grandpa, Peter's Mom, Peters Dad, and Jennifer. Grandpa moves in because he is lonely since his wife died. Pete moves upstairs to the attic because Grandpa's leg is to bad to walk a flight of stairs. In the beginning, Peter declares war on Grandpa because he wants his room back, but Grandpa tries to convince him that the war is pointless. In the middle, the real War with Grandpa happens because they play pranks on each other. For example Peter steals Grandpa's special watch and Grandpa steals and Grandpa steals Peter's Monopoly game pieces. In the end, Peter loses the war but things work out for both Peter and Grandpa
There are very important themes in this book, One theme is that war is horrible and things should be talked out. One event that supports this theme is when Grandpa got his revenge; Peter suffered by being late for school. Another theme is that life isn't always fair. Peter lost his room and complained too much. Life isn't always fair for Grandpa either because his wife died. I recommend this book to kids ages nine to twelve because it is funny, inspiring, and, interesting. The book is funny because the pranks are hilarious and they remind me of something kids my age would do.

3 out of 5 stars book review

The War with Grandpa, written by Robert Kimmel Smith. Is about young boy named Peter, his grandpa comes to live with his family. He comes to live with them because Peter's grandma died and grandpa is lonely all by himself. Although Peter loves and cares for his grandpa, when he comes to live with them he will take Peter's room. That means Peter will have too sleep upstairs in the guestroom. Grandpa can't sleep on the third floor because his leg is bad. Peter decides to start a war with his grandpa, because he says grandpa took something of his, and he wants it back. One trick that Peter did to grandpa, was when he took grandpa's watch, that grandma gave to him before she died. At the end the, war ends because grandpa makes a room for him out of the basement. Then Peter goes back to living in his room.
From The War with Grandpa, I learned to be giving or generous. The book showed generosity by Peter's family letting grandpa move in with them, even thought they didn't have too. Grandpa showed generosity by letting Peter have his room back, and grandpa's room was downstairs in the basement. The book also showed me to be kind and loving. Such as every night grandpa would kiss Peter goodnight even though the two were in a war. The family shows love to everybody because the thought about the bad things about grandpa walking up two flights of stairs.
I would recommend The War with Grandpa, for people who enjoy kid stories, short stories. I felt The War With Grandpa is a story for younger readers and most likely not for enjoyment for adults.

5 out of 5 stars Book Review

I read the war with grandpa by Robert Kimmel Smith and I really liked this book. When grandpa comes to live with peter and his family everything doesn't go right like grandpa takes peters room because his leg hurts really bad. When they start a war peter sends a lot of notes to grandpa and when grandpa gets pushed over the edge he slaps peter then takes all the monopoly pieces. When grandpa invites him to go fishing with him they have a great time. Then peter starts the war with grandpa again at the end peter takes grandpas teeth to get back at him. He sees how miserable grandpa is gives his teeth back and gives up the war. So grandpa decides to let peter have his room back after thinking of an idea he builds a mini apartment in their basement and dad moves his office to the third floor.
I learned to share what you have or something might happen to it like when peter didn't share his room with grandpa he took all peters monopoly pieces and hid them. Peter always said that room was nobody elses room but his then he started a war with his grandpa. Another thing I learned was don't start something you don't want to finish like when peter and grandpa a war peter didn't want to finish it, also when peter and grandpa went fishing they were being all nice then peter started the war again.
I think that people who like funny fiction would like this book because it is funny like when grandpa hid all peters things before school and left him notes to help him find them and there are parts that can be real but are not.

4 out of 5 stars This book is hilarious

This book was very funny. I thought it was hilarious when Peter went to war with his Gramdpa. It's not something you see everyday. I would be concerned that kids would read this book and think it was ok to play tricks on your family, though.
