WELCOME TO THE WISDOM OF THE WORLD been nominated for the 2009 Rodda Award sponsored by the Church and Synagogue Library Association (CSLA), an international organization serving congregational libraries of all faiths. CSLA's Rodda Award is named for Dorothy Rodda Sargent, a lifetime member and one of the founders of the organization. This award recognizes a book which exhibits excellence in writing and has contributed significantly to congregational libraries through promotion of spiritual growth. The award is given to books for adults, young adults, and children on a three-year-rotational basis. The 2009 Rodda Award focuses on books for adult readers and this year's winner will be announced at the CSLA annual conference to be held at the McKinley Grand Hotel in Canton, Ohio, July 26-28. Heartspeak
According to Chittister, "The truth in every age lives with questions in progress."
The one thing that is never in question for me is that a Chittister book is inspiring, insightful and seems to make a positive contribution in my life.
In this book, Joan deals with some rather universal questions in each chapter - questions common to all inhabitants of this planet. She addresses these questions with insights from other cultures and 5 different faith persuasions.
I recommend this book. It was a blessing for me.
Helped me appreciate major world religions
Of a few books that I have read about religion and spirituality, I believe this is a great book to start. What a simple way of getting the best world religion has to offer:
a) The question answer format used by the book works very well for new people to this subject, like me.
b) The root of tradition section with summary for each religion is excellent for me who would like to know the most important things about a religion in a few words.
c) It has many interesting short stories.
Joan Chittister, thank you for this wonderful book. Now, I can understand why you did not write a book, with the same question answered by spiritual insight of major world religions.
Wisdom surrounds us
So many times people think that they aare without a clue of what to think or how to act. Many traditions give us guidance if we are open enough to receive. Joan's book leads uss to such wisdom and opens pur lens to a broadeer perspective.
